The design of the coin was made by Jody Clark. The obverse of the coin showcases the majestic White Greyhound of Richmond. This animal was part of the design of the Royal Arm in 1449, when Henry VI granted the earldom of Richmond to his half-brother Edmund Tudor. The greyhound also symbolises the Tudor and Lancastrian ancestry of Henry VII (Edmund’s son), who became King of England in 1485.
The obverse of the coin also features a shield with the Tudor rose. This rose is a combination of the red rose of Lancaster and the white rose of York. It is a symbol of unification, dating back to Henry VII reign, when he united both houses, ending the Wars of the Roses. You can also see the year of issue (2021), as well as the engraver’s initials (JC) under the shield.
The reverse of the coin feature the latest portrait facing right of Queen Elizabeth II. The face value “25 Pounds”, as well as the mention “Elizabeth II D.G. REG. F.D” is also displayed along the edge of the coin.
