The obverse features the Musikverein Golden Hall’s, a concert hall in the Innere Stadt borough of Vienna. This is where the actual Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra performs. The inscription ” REPUBLIK OSTERREICH ” (‘Republic of Austria) surrounds the Great pipe Organ located in the center of the coin surface. The mention ” 1 UNZE FEINSILBER ” (1 ounce pure silver) is also minted in the obverse. The face value 1.50 Euro is located at the bottom of the coin.
The reverse shows the different instruments used in the Philharmonic Orchestra in Vienna. These instruments include the harp, violin, cello, flute, bassoon and french orn. The inscription ” WIENER PHILHARMONIKER ” (Vienna Philharmonic) and ” SILBER ” are engraved at the top of the coin.
The obverse and the reverse design of the coin were realised by Thomas Pesendorfer in 1989.
